Nylon Dog Frisbee
Paws for thought:
When you’re ticked off and things get ruff:
Get a new leash on life and have fun with a dog.
These
Frisbees are sturdy and durable: Fun for a dog to catch.
They also
have a handle-lip deep enough to play tug.
It’s an
easy spiral pattern.
And can
be made in in an a couple hours.
So go
fetch your hook and yarn and ruff one out in no time.
This pattern is meant to be tough and sturdy.
A few years back, I made one for my daughter’s dog in cotton.
He was quite a chewer, and it ended up in shreds.
On the other hand, my dad’s
dog loved it and took it to bed at night.
This one, with
a double strand of #18 nylon thread, is much stronger.
Pattern Notes:
There are different brands of #18 Nylon Thread/Cord.
Omega La Espiga and Iris seem to be the most common.
They cost anywhere from about $4 to $9 for a spool of 197 yards.
It can be found in most craft shops or Walmart or Amazon.
2 spools should be enough to make three Frisbees.
But you will still need 2 spools to work with.
You can use
the same color for both.
Or maybe mix
2 different colors for a speckled-variegated effect.
I used two
strands of Omega La Espiga: color #58 - Var. Feast.
The pattern
is worked in a spiral.
Working with nylon is a bit different than cotton.
Leave enough beginning (and ending) thread (about 6” / 15 cm) to
securely work over or weave in.
When weaving in, it is a bit easier to weave each single strand
separately.
Joining the chain with a slip-stitch in the back-bar of the first chain (see photo), will produce a smoother
beginning edge.
Be sure that the stitches are uniform and not too tight.
Nylon does not stretch like cotton.
So, if the stitches are too tight, on the following round, it may be
challenging to insert the hook.
